Narrative:

We parked at gate in tpa at xx:19 local. I parked the brakes and released the handle, keeping my ft on the brake pedals. I looked back to observe the jetway moving forward past the left forward entry door. It struck the door and I realized something was wrong and applied pressure to the brakes. I felt the aircraft stop although I hadn't felt or seen it move. By this time the jetway was 5-6 ft ahead of us and ground called to have us release the brakes so he could pull us back to the spot. I initially thought the agent had lost control of the jetway. Although it soon became apparent the aircraft had rolled backwards down the slight incline in the ramp. Damage to the door was minimal and the aircraft departed on schedule. The station manager informed me that the jetway load leveler appeared to be damaged. I am 6 ft 6 inches tall and I fly with the seat lowered to the floor which sometimes makes it difficult for me to gain the proper leverage to park the brakes. Supplemental information from acn 183222. The aircraft parking brake was set after the appropriate signal from the ground. I changed electrical power to the auxiliary power unit and turned off a 'B' system hydraulic pump after confirming the red parking brake light was illuminated. I was waiting for the forward entry light to illuminate to enter the fuel remaining in ACARS. I heard noise and looked to the front and saw what appeared to be the jetway running away. Supplemental information from acn 183620. When parking at gate at tpa, brakes were parked and secure cockpit checklist completed. Captain was holding brakes when jetway appeared to be moving forward/away from aircraft. Captain then applied brakes, stopped aircraft. Problem was caused probably by not setting brakes carefully enough.

Title: ACR LGT ACFT HITS JETWAY AS ACFT ROLLS BACKWARDS AFTER BRAKES DO NOT HOLD ACFT ON SLOPING RAMP. IN RAMP OPERATION ACFT PARKING PROC.

Narrative: WE PARKED AT GATE IN TPA AT XX:19 LCL. I PARKED THE BRAKES AND RELEASED THE HANDLE, KEEPING MY FT ON THE BRAKE PEDALS. I LOOKED BACK TO OBSERVE THE JETWAY MOVING FORWARD PAST THE L FORWARD ENTRY DOOR. IT STRUCK THE DOOR AND I REALIZED SOMETHING WAS WRONG AND APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES. I FELT THE ACFT STOP ALTHOUGH I HADN'T FELT OR SEEN IT MOVE. BY THIS TIME THE JETWAY WAS 5-6 FT AHEAD OF US AND GND CALLED TO HAVE US RELEASE THE BRAKES SO HE COULD PULL US BACK TO THE SPOT. I INITIALLY THOUGHT THE AGENT HAD LOST CTL OF THE JETWAY. ALTHOUGH IT SOON BECAME APPARENT THE ACFT HAD ROLLED BACKWARDS DOWN THE SLIGHT INCLINE IN THE RAMP. DAMAGE TO THE DOOR WAS MINIMAL AND THE ACFT DEPARTED ON SCHEDULE. THE STATION MGR INFORMED ME THAT THE JETWAY LOAD LEVELER APPEARED TO BE DAMAGED. I AM 6 FT 6 INCHES TALL AND I FLY WITH THE SEAT LOWERED TO THE FLOOR WHICH SOMETIMES MAKES IT DIFFICULT FOR ME TO GAIN THE PROPER LEVERAGE TO PARK THE BRAKES. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 183222. THE ACFT PARKING BRAKE WAS SET AFTER THE APPROPRIATE SIGNAL FROM THE GND. I CHANGED ELECTRICAL PWR TO THE AUX PWR UNIT AND TURNED OFF A 'B' SYS HYD PUMP AFTER CONFIRMING THE RED PARKING BRAKE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. I WAS WAITING FOR THE FORWARD ENTRY LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE TO ENTER THE FUEL REMAINING IN ACARS. I HEARD NOISE AND LOOKED TO THE FRONT AND SAW WHAT APPEARED TO BE THE JETWAY RUNNING AWAY. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 183620. WHEN PARKING AT GATE AT TPA, BRAKES WERE PARKED AND SECURE COCKPIT CHKLIST COMPLETED. CAPT WAS HOLDING BRAKES WHEN JETWAY APPEARED TO BE MOVING FORWARD/AWAY FROM ACFT. CAPT THEN APPLIED BRAKES, STOPPED ACFT. PROBLEM WAS CAUSED PROBABLY BY NOT SETTING BRAKES CAREFULLY ENOUGH.
