Narrative:
Flight fra-dtw 7/wed/91. At the conclusion of aircraft boarding, all seats were full. Captain's wife was unable to get a seat aboard aircraft. Captain asked if anyone objected to his wife sitting in cockpit so she could get home. As an instructor pilot I had authority and could have prevented this incident. With many other things on my mind (departure was soon to begin) and not wanting to be the 'bad guy' I did not object. At the time I knew it was against company policy but I did not think of it as breaking a far. The thought of having a 'bad guy image' because you abide by the rules is wrong. It has bothered me that I felt the way I did and did not insist on following procedure. This has taught me not to worry about image when someone else wants to break the rules.
