Narrative:
We were instructed to follow an medium large transport X on final for 2R at nashville (bna). The medium large transport X was on a 1-2 mi final, we were 6-8 mi out. We were then switched to tower. At that time we were also told to follow the medium large transport X on final. No one mentioned that there was 2 mlgs, X and Y, on final and that the one we are to follow just showed up at our 12 O'clock position (tower said 2 O'clock position, first medium large transport at our 3-4 O'clock position). In order to have proper separation with the second medium large transport we had to slow down and make a wide right turn for 2R. When we questioned tower as to which medium large transport we were to follow, we do not feel we were given an adequate answer. Also, tower told us to make our turn now to 2R. We did not feel we were out of our airspace to make the turn, or infringed on 2L approach. It would be helpful to know how many aircraft are on final (especially the same airline and aircraft) and the location of the aircraft we are to follow. This time it was just an inconvenience, next time it may be a midair.

Title: FO OF COMMUTER RPTING WAS APPARENTLY CONFUSED AS TO WHICH MLG THEIR FLT WAS TO FOLLOW.
Narrative: WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO FOLLOW AN MLG X ON FINAL FOR 2R AT NASHVILLE (BNA). THE MLG X WAS ON A 1-2 MI FINAL, WE WERE 6-8 MI OUT. WE WERE THEN SWITCHED TO TWR. AT THAT TIME WE WERE ALSO TOLD TO FOLLOW THE MLG X ON FINAL. NO ONE MENTIONED THAT THERE WAS 2 MLGS, X AND Y, ON FINAL AND THAT THE ONE WE ARE TO FOLLOW JUST SHOWED UP AT OUR 12 O'CLOCK POS (TWR SAID 2 O'CLOCK POS, FIRST MLG AT OUR 3-4 O'CLOCK POS). IN ORDER TO HAVE PROPER SEPARATION WITH THE SECOND MLG WE HAD TO SLOW DOWN AND MAKE A WIDE R TURN FOR 2R. WHEN WE QUESTIONED TWR AS TO WHICH MLG WE WERE TO FOLLOW, WE DO NOT FEEL WE WERE GIVEN AN ADEQUATE ANSWER. ALSO, TWR TOLD US TO MAKE OUR TURN NOW TO 2R. WE DID NOT FEEL WE WERE OUT OF OUR AIRSPACE TO MAKE THE TURN, OR INFRINGED ON 2L APCH. IT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO KNOW HOW MANY ACFT ARE ON FINAL (ESPECIALLY THE SAME AIRLINE AND ACFT) AND THE LOCATION OF THE ACFT WE ARE TO FOLLOW. THIS TIME IT WAS JUST AN INCONVENIENCE, NEXT TIME IT MAY BE A MIDAIR.
