Narrative:
Told to taxi to runway 7. Ground controller then amended instructions to taxi around the terminal using foxtrot and echo. Thought he was telling this because another section of taxiway was closed on airport. Thought we were on echo, however it turned out to be golf taxiway. I think the problem would have been averted if I paid close attention to taxi chart. However, these taxiways are poorly marked at jax. Either a sign or paint on taxiway designating the specific taxiway would be a great help. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states there is a great deal of construction going on so some taxiways are closed creating confusion. Biggest problem is that the signs are not located at points where reference is easy. Paint is very worn.
