Narrative:

On a direct flight from ptn to new I had approval to deviate around thunderstorms, I encountered turbulence and could not hold altitude, with each hard bump the transceiver would change frequency making communications with approach control almost impossible. I have never had a radio do this before. This condition lasted approximately 3 mins.
