Narrative:
Description of event: PIC took active runway without proper clearance. PIC was issued clearance to taxi to active runway. PIC failed to hold short and obtain proper clearance. Causes: two pilot operation with PIC distraction by copilot conversation. Lack of crew coordination and xchk. Pilot unfamiliar with previous closed section of taxiway/runway. PIC failed to maintain position awareness while taxiing. Slow reaction to problem. Corrective recommendations: PIC work aircraft radios while taxiing/takeoff/landing. Establish crew coordination assignments and xchk each other. Maintain position awareness at all times.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RWY INCURSION DURING UNAUTHORIZED RWY ENTRY.
Narrative: DESCRIPTION OF EVENT: PIC TOOK ACTIVE RWY WITHOUT PROPER CLRNC. PIC WAS ISSUED CLRNC TO TAXI TO ACTIVE RWY. PIC FAILED TO HOLD SHORT AND OBTAIN PROPER CLRNC. CAUSES: TWO PLT OPERATION WITH PIC DISTR BY COPLT CONVERSATION. LACK OF CREW COORD AND XCHK. PLT UNFAMILIAR WITH PREVIOUS CLOSED SECTION OF TAXIWAY/RWY. PIC FAILED TO MAINTAIN POS AWARENESS WHILE TAXIING. SLOW REACTION TO PROBLEM. CORRECTIVE RECOMMENDATIONS: PIC WORK ACFT RADIOS WHILE TAXIING/TKOF/LNDG. ESTABLISH CREW COORD ASSIGNMENTS AND XCHK EACH OTHER. MAINTAIN POS AWARENESS AT ALL TIMES.
