Narrative:
While on radar vectors in new york terminal area (060 heading 4000 ft) I noticed traffic at 12 O'clock 2 mi plus 100 ft on TCASII display. Controller issued right turn to 100 degree then descent to 3000 ft. Passing 3600 ft TCASII issued RA to climb at 200 ft at 300 FPM which we followed. Our turn and climb back to 4000 ft kept us clear of traffic which was never acquired visually. Closest point was about 2 mi from traffic. Landing was uneventful and controller never pointed out traffic location.

Title: ACR CLBS AS EVASIVE ACTION IN RESPONSE TO TCASII RA.
Narrative: WHILE ON RADAR VECTORS IN NEW YORK TERMINAL AREA (060 HDG 4000 FT) I NOTICED TFC AT 12 O'CLOCK 2 MI PLUS 100 FT ON TCASII DISPLAY. CTLR ISSUED R TURN TO 100 DEG THEN DSCNT TO 3000 FT. PASSING 3600 FT TCASII ISSUED RA TO CLB AT 200 FT AT 300 FPM WHICH WE FOLLOWED. OUR TURN AND CLB BACK TO 4000 FT KEPT US CLR OF TFC WHICH WAS NEVER ACQUIRED VISUALLY. CLOSEST POINT WAS ABOUT 2 MI FROM TFC. LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL AND CTLR NEVER POINTED OUT TFC LOCATION.
