Narrative:
Air carrier X in cruise ATC advised to turn 80 degrees to the right. Immediately TCAS commanded 'descend.' in turn I descended from 310 to 29.5. TCAS became silent. ATC shortly cleared us back to 310 and direct to greensboro and on course. They confirmed air carrier Y in the area. TCAS worked as advertised. Center confirmed his alarm also sounded.
