Narrative:
While pleasure flying, a power line impact occurred with no personal injury but 2 aircraft cable severed and 1 upright broken. Pilot continued his flight and landed promptly and safely. Additional training in competition flying and power line knowledge/safety factors for lta pilot is recommended. The action of the pilot was appropriate, his judgement after impact was quite effective. Distraction of reading maps while flying contributed to the accident.

Title: BALLOON PLT FLYING IN COMPETITION HAS PWR LINE IMPACT.
Narrative: WHILE PLEASURE FLYING, A PWR LINE IMPACT OCCURRED WITH NO PERSONAL INJURY BUT 2 ACFT CABLE SEVERED AND 1 UPRIGHT BROKEN. PLT CONTINUED HIS FLT AND LANDED PROMPTLY AND SAFELY. ADDITIONAL TRAINING IN COMPETITION FLYING AND PWR LINE KNOWLEDGE/SAFETY FACTORS FOR LTA PLT IS RECOMMENDED. THE ACTION OF THE PLT WAS APPROPRIATE, HIS JUDGEMENT AFTER IMPACT WAS QUITE EFFECTIVE. DISTR OF READING MAPS WHILE FLYING CONTRIBUTED TO THE ACCIDENT.
