Narrative:
Aircraft was climbing to assigned altitude of 4000 ft, when at approximately 3200 ft the pilot's attitude indicator's information commenced showing a right bank. When checked against the directional gyroscope after a wings level attitude was acquired, the directional gyroscope showed a left turn had commenced. While cross scanning the other instruments to stabilize the aircraft the altitude was checked showing 4400 ft. The aircraft achieved 4500 ft before an immediate descent was commenced back to the assigned altitude of 4000 ft. No comment or report was made by ATC on the incident, evidently it was not noticed.

Narrative: ACFT WAS CLBING TO ASSIGNED ALT OF 4000 FT, WHEN AT APPROX 3200 FT THE PLT'S ATTITUDE INDICATOR'S INFO COMMENCED SHOWING A R BANK. WHEN CHKED AGAINST THE DIRECTIONAL GYROSCOPE AFTER A WINGS LEVEL ATTITUDE WAS ACQUIRED, THE DIRECTIONAL GYROSCOPE SHOWED A L TURN HAD COMMENCED. WHILE CROSS SCANNING THE OTHER INSTS TO STABILIZE THE ACFT THE ALT WAS CHKED SHOWING 4400 FT. THE ACFT ACHIEVED 4500 FT BEFORE AN IMMEDIATE DSCNT WAS COMMENCED BACK TO THE ASSIGNED ALT OF 4000 FT.
