Narrative:
Departed alb with normal taxi and takeoff. Climbing through 115000 ft #1 engine had a loud bang and shudder engine instruments indicated a high egt and a drop in #1 EPR. Engine fire severe damage checklist was accomplished. Emergency declared and returned to alb with no further incident. Initial suspicion was #6 stage of the compressor section had torn loose with most of the parts contained by the engine shroud.

Title: ENG FLARE ON LGT IN CLB AT 11500. DECLARED EMER. SHUT DOWN ENG. RETURNED TO ALB FOR LNDG.
Narrative: DEPARTED ALB WITH NORMAL TAXI AND TKOF. CLBING THROUGH 115000 FT #1 ENG HAD A LOUD BANG AND SHUDDER ENG INSTS INDICATED A HIGH EGT AND A DROP IN #1 EPR. ENG FIRE SEVERE DAMAGE CHKLIST WAS ACCOMPLISHED. EMER DECLARED AND RETURNED TO ALB WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT. INITIAL SUSPICION WAS #6 STAGE OF THE COMPRESSOR SECTION HAD TORN LOOSE WITH MOST OF THE PARTS CONTAINED BY THE ENG SHROUD.
