Narrative:
Center controller cleared us direct peotone (eon) and captain typed in eno. Aircraft turned to navigation to eno. Controller caught us and turned us south. As a pilot, flying mostly on the east coast, eno (kenton) is a frequently used fix. The letters looked correct. Next time, when flying in less frequented airspace, to pay closer attention to the identifiers.
