Narrative:
Approach called traffic at 6500 VFR over the VOR. We were descending and TCASII gave us a TA showing traffic 200 ft above us about 3 mi ahead. I increased rate of descent and at 6000 ft TA became an RA, commanding a min descent rate of 1200 FPM. We never saw the traffic and the RA called clear. We descended about 300-400 ft below our assigned altitude, and advised same, simultaneously being reclred to 5000 ft. Other than the RA being issued, no traffic was observed. The supposed VFR traffic was not operating in VFR conditions. As a side note, when TCASII goes off everybody, captain and first officer, look inside at TCASII. I strongly feel 1 pilot should immediately 'go outside' while the other pilot calls the traffic position from TCASII, while following the RA.

Title: TCASII RA CREATES AN ALT DEV ALT EXCURSION BY PIC OF ACR MLG.
Narrative: APCH CALLED TFC AT 6500 VFR OVER THE VOR. WE WERE DSNDING AND TCASII GAVE US A TA SHOWING TFC 200 FT ABOVE US ABOUT 3 MI AHEAD. I INCREASED RATE OF DSCNT AND AT 6000 FT TA BECAME AN RA, COMMANDING A MIN DSCNT RATE OF 1200 FPM. WE NEVER SAW THE TFC AND THE RA CALLED CLR. WE DSNDED ABOUT 300-400 FT BELOW OUR ASSIGNED ALT, AND ADVISED SAME, SIMULTANEOUSLY BEING RECLRED TO 5000 FT. OTHER THAN THE RA BEING ISSUED, NO TFC WAS OBSERVED. THE SUPPOSED VFR TFC WAS NOT OPERATING IN VFR CONDITIONS. AS A SIDE NOTE, WHEN TCASII GOES OFF EVERYBODY, CAPT AND FO, LOOK INSIDE AT TCASII. I STRONGLY FEEL 1 PLT SHOULD IMMEDIATELY 'GO OUTSIDE' WHILE THE OTHER PLT CALLS THE TFC POS FROM TCASII, WHILE FOLLOWING THE RA.
