Narrative:
Flight sea-rno. En route aircraft left main tank fuel gauge lost 3000 pounds. Both tanks had approximately 8500 pounds each with total fob 17000 pounds. Possible fuel gauge/totalizer malfunction or siphoning of left tank (main). Approximately 70 DME north of lakeview VORTAC decision made to land lmt (klamath falls, or) to investigate. After refueling normal flight from lmt to rno. Invaluable ATC assistance throughout aircraft as per conversation by captain and company maintenance had unmodified fuel wiring harness. Previous problems of fuel gauge increase/decrease giving false reading with unmodified harness. No abnormal trim or flight control input during flight. 1 unit left rudder trim average for flight. All company fueling procedures followed. Supplemental information from acn 188276: while completing procedures and xchking gauges with fuel added at sea also believed right gauge reading high. Found had faulty readings in both gauges.
