Narrative:

Taxied out on 1 engine to runway 23R at intersection of runway 32. Started second engine en route, completed normal checklists, then had to wait approximately 30 seconds to complete 2 min warmup before takeoff. When power was advanced, there was no takeoff warning horn or warning lights. After I made the 80 KT call, I scanned the engine instruments and noticed that the amber 'leading edge flap transit' light was on and the green 'leading edge flap ext' light was out. I took about 1-2 seconds to realize the implications of the light. Takeoff was rejected at 110 KTS (V1, 130 KTS). Automatic brakes operated normally and taxied off 23R with approximately 2000 ft remaining. After clearing the runway, I checked the leading edge devices annunciator on the aft overhead panel and found that the leading edge devices were in their proper position even though the amber light on the forward panel was still on. Returned to the gate leaving flaps at 5. After switching to APU power and engine shutdown, the amber light remained on. Before talking to me, the mechanics entered the 'east and east' compartment and did things that made the flap indicators jump and the leading edge device lights flash on and off. The amber light remained on until the flaps were cycled and worked properly afterwards. After a 1 hour and 6 min cooling period, maintenance determined that the brakes had reached their wear limits and the #3 and #4 brakes were changed.

Title: ACR MLG TKOF ABORT WHEN CAPT NOTICED THE LE FLAP INDICATOR LIGHTS WERE NOT GREEN INDICATING LE FLAPS EXTENDED.

Narrative: TAXIED OUT ON 1 ENG TO RWY 23R AT INTXN OF RWY 32. STARTED SECOND ENG ENRTE, COMPLETED NORMAL CHKLISTS, THEN HAD TO WAIT APPROX 30 SECONDS TO COMPLETE 2 MIN WARMUP BEFORE TKOF. WHEN PWR WAS ADVANCED, THERE WAS NO TKOF WARNING HORN OR WARNING LIGHTS. AFTER I MADE THE 80 KT CALL, I SCANNED THE ENG INSTS AND NOTICED THAT THE AMBER 'LEADING EDGE FLAP TRANSIT' LIGHT WAS ON AND THE GREEN 'LEADING EDGE FLAP EXT' LIGHT WAS OUT. I TOOK ABOUT 1-2 SECONDS TO REALIZE THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE LIGHT. TKOF WAS REJECTED AT 110 KTS (V1, 130 KTS). AUTO BRAKES OPERATED NORMALLY AND TAXIED OFF 23R WITH APPROX 2000 FT REMAINING. AFTER CLRING THE RWY, I CHKED THE LEADING EDGE DEVICES ANNUNCIATOR ON THE AFT OVERHEAD PANEL AND FOUND THAT THE LEADING EDGE DEVICES WERE IN THEIR PROPER POS EVEN THOUGH THE AMBER LIGHT ON THE FORWARD PANEL WAS STILL ON. RETURNED TO THE GATE LEAVING FLAPS AT 5. AFTER SWITCHING TO APU PWR AND ENG SHUTDOWN, THE AMBER LIGHT REMAINED ON. BEFORE TALKING TO ME, THE MECHS ENTERED THE 'E AND E' COMPARTMENT AND DID THINGS THAT MADE THE FLAP INDICATORS JUMP AND THE LEADING EDGE DEVICE LIGHTS FLASH ON AND OFF. THE AMBER LIGHT REMAINED ON UNTIL THE FLAPS WERE CYCLED AND WORKED PROPERLY AFTERWARDS. AFTER A 1 HR AND 6 MIN COOLING PERIOD, MAINT DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKES HAD REACHED THEIR WEAR LIMITS AND THE #3 AND #4 BRAKES WERE CHANGED.
