Narrative:
Flight (mem-dtw) was making visual approach to 21R at detroit metropolitan airport. Aircraft model was an medium large transport with air carrier identify. The WX was clear and good visibility (10 mi). The weight of the landing aircraft was 100000 pounds with an approach speed of 141 KTS. The approach was stable and on profile. The winds were approximately 45 degree of runway heading at 10 KTS. The flare was started too late and this resulted in a hard landing on the main gear. The nose gear was lowered to the runway normally and the remainder of landing rollout and taxi in was uneventful. No oxygen masks came down or any other irregularities, so I wrote this in the maintenance log as a hard landing. I never have experienced a landing of this firmness before so in the interest of safety it was written up as hard. An elderly woman who has a history of back problems complained at the gate of complications from the landing. Paramedics were called to assist her. 1 flight attendant also complained of back pain on landing but was okay within a short time.

Title: ACR MLG HARD LNDG AT DTW. A PAX WITH HISTORY OF BACK PROBLEMS REQUESTED MEDICAL ASSISTANCE.
Narrative: FLT (MEM-DTW) WAS MAKING VISUAL APCH TO 21R AT DETROIT METRO ARPT. ACFT MODEL WAS AN MLG WITH ACR IDENT. THE WX WAS CLR AND GOOD VISIBILITY (10 MI). THE WT OF THE LNDG ACFT WAS 100000 POUNDS WITH AN APCH SPD OF 141 KTS. THE APCH WAS STABLE AND ON PROFILE. THE WINDS WERE APPROX 45 DEG OF RWY HDG AT 10 KTS. THE FLARE WAS STARTED TOO LATE AND THIS RESULTED IN A HARD LNDG ON THE MAIN GEAR. THE NOSE GEAR WAS LOWERED TO THE RWY NORMALLY AND THE REMAINDER OF LNDG ROLLOUT AND TAXI IN WAS UNEVENTFUL. NO OXYGEN MASKS CAME DOWN OR ANY OTHER IRREGULARITIES, SO I WROTE THIS IN THE MAINT LOG AS A HARD LNDG. I NEVER HAVE EXPERIENCED A LNDG OF THIS FIRMNESS BEFORE SO IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY IT WAS WRITTEN UP AS HARD. AN ELDERLY WOMAN WHO HAS A HISTORY OF BACK PROBLEMS COMPLAINED AT THE GATE OF COMPLICATIONS FROM THE LNDG. PARAMEDICS WERE CALLED TO ASSIST HER. 1 FLT ATTENDANT ALSO COMPLAINED OF BACK PAIN ON LNDG BUT WAS OKAY WITHIN A SHORT TIME.
