Narrative:
En route IFR from hyw to 49J via chs V1 radar vectors (beaufort approach) visual approach visibility in flight 3 mi. Approach cleared me to descend to 1500 cleared visual approach 49J. Pilot requested vector heading to 49J. Pilot estimates placed aircraft 6 mi northeast of beaufort county airport, approximately 16 mi nne of 49J. Pilot mistook beaufort county for destination and proceeded towards and overflew beaufort county. After descent clearance issued ATC authorized change to advisory frequency. Pilot attempted communication on CTAF 123.0 communication 1 and communication 2 and noticed indications of possible stuck microphone (no rcvr communication/navigation/ADF coming through speaker). After several combination attempts of audio panel selections, pilot attempted to recontact approach control for a second vector heading to 49J. Receivers were intermittent but functioning, ATC advised pilot to remain 'this' frequency fly heading 150 degree, hilton head 5 mi. Pilot obtained visual sighting of field at 3 mi, was instructed to contact advisory frequency. At this time pilot cancelled IFR flight plan, joined traffic pattern and made a normal landing at hilton head. Pilot disorientation during visual approach segment/controller failure to give vector heading to airport with any additional corrections which could have aided pilot in reduced visibility conditions. Loss of communication at crucial phase of flight, adding distraction during approach phase.

Title: RADAR VECTORING REQUIRED TO FLT ASSIST ACFT TO A VISUAL APCH TO DEST ARPT. INITIAL HDG TRACK DEV PLACED RPTR IN PROX OF NBC ATA IN AN UNAUTHORIZED PENETRATION OF AIRSPACE.
Narrative: ENRTE IFR FROM HYW TO 49J VIA CHS V1 RADAR VECTORS (BEAUFORT APCH) VISUAL APCH VISIBILITY IN FLT 3 MI. APCH CLRED ME TO DSND TO 1500 CLRED VISUAL APCH 49J. PLT REQUESTED VECTOR HDG TO 49J. PLT ESTIMATES PLACED ACFT 6 MI NE OF BEAUFORT COUNTY ARPT, APPROX 16 MI NNE OF 49J. PLT MISTOOK BEAUFORT COUNTY FOR DEST AND PROCEEDED TOWARDS AND OVERFLEW BEAUFORT COUNTY. AFTER DSCNT CLRNC ISSUED ATC AUTHORIZED CHANGE TO ADVISORY FREQ. PLT ATTEMPTED COM ON CTAF 123.0 COM 1 AND COM 2 AND NOTICED INDICATIONS OF POSSIBLE STUCK MICROPHONE (NO RCVR COM/NAV/ADF COMING THROUGH SPEAKER). AFTER SEVERAL COMBINATION ATTEMPTS OF AUDIO PANEL SELECTIONS, PLT ATTEMPTED TO RECONTACT APCH CTL FOR A SECOND VECTOR HDG TO 49J. RECEIVERS WERE INTERMITTENT BUT FUNCTIONING, ATC ADVISED PLT TO REMAIN 'THIS' FREQ FLY HDG 150 DEG, HILTON HEAD 5 MI. PLT OBTAINED VISUAL SIGHTING OF FIELD AT 3 MI, WAS INSTRUCTED TO CONTACT ADVISORY FREQ. AT THIS TIME PLT CANCELLED IFR FLT PLAN, JOINED TFC PATTERN AND MADE A NORMAL LNDG AT HILTON HEAD. PLT DISORIENTATION DURING VISUAL APCH SEGMENT/CTLR FAILURE TO GIVE VECTOR HDG TO ARPT WITH ANY ADDITIONAL CORRECTIONS WHICH COULD HAVE AIDED PLT IN REDUCED VISIBILITY CONDITIONS. LOSS OF COM AT CRUCIAL PHASE OF FLT, ADDING DISTR DURING APCH PHASE.
