Narrative:
We were cleared for an approach to 26R atl hartsfield airport. At approximately XY20 am, sep/thu/91. Atl reported 4000 ft ceiling, 3 mi visibility. After passing LOM and at approximately 800-1100 ft AGL, we entered a small cloud bank observing part of the runway environment. I went back on my instruments then I saw the approach leveling in lights and approach environment so I was both in and out of the cockpit when it seemed like somebody threw a huge bucket of water over us. We had experienced a sudden rain shower that was heavy. I transferred back to my instruments and discovered that we were below the glide path 1 DOT to 1 1/2 dots low. I corrected immediately then we went below again. This time I realized it was not a good situation so I executed a go around. It took full power to come out of this situation. Then, all of a sudden, we were clear -- just like nothing had happened. We notified atl approach, came back around and landed in almost VFR conditions. Quite an experience that makes one grow old faster.

Title: ACR LGT HAS DOWNDRAFT ENCOUNTER DUE TO TSTM ACTIVITY DURING IAP ILS APCH AND PERFORMS MISSED APCH PROC.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED FOR AN APCH TO 26R ATL HARTSFIELD ARPT. AT APPROX XY20 AM, SEP/THU/91. ATL RPTED 4000 FT CEILING, 3 MI VISIBILITY. AFTER PASSING LOM AND AT APPROX 800-1100 FT AGL, WE ENTERED A SMALL CLOUD BANK OBSERVING PART OF THE RWY ENVIRONMENT. I WENT BACK ON MY INSTS THEN I SAW THE APCH LEVELING IN LIGHTS AND APCH ENVIRONMENT SO I WAS BOTH IN AND OUT OF THE COCKPIT WHEN IT SEEMED LIKE SOMEBODY THREW A HUGE BUCKET OF WATER OVER US. WE HAD EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN RAIN SHOWER THAT WAS HVY. I TRANSFERRED BACK TO MY INSTS AND DISCOVERED THAT WE WERE BELOW THE GLIDE PATH 1 DOT TO 1 1/2 DOTS LOW. I CORRECTED IMMEDIATELY THEN WE WENT BELOW AGAIN. THIS TIME I REALIZED IT WAS NOT A GOOD SITUATION SO I EXECUTED A GAR. IT TOOK FULL PWR TO COME OUT OF THIS SITUATION. THEN, ALL OF A SUDDEN, WE WERE CLR -- JUST LIKE NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. WE NOTIFIED ATL APCH, CAME BACK AROUND AND LANDED IN ALMOST VFR CONDITIONS. QUITE AN EXPERIENCE THAT MAKES ONE GROW OLD FASTER.
