Narrative:
At about 70 mi north of cae at FL310 WX was noticed at 12 O'clock. The seatbelt sign was turned on and I asked ZJX for a WX deviation to the right or left of course to avoid WX in the vicinity of columbia, sc. The controller responded that the flight was cleared to deviate east. The aircraft was turned 15 degrees east of course to avoid a major cell. When the cell was 20-25 west of our position and the aircraft was 30 NM east southeast of columbia we began to enter occasional very light rain. Ignition and engine heat was turned on. No significant WX showed on the radar other than the cell we were deviating from. We had 2 mild intermittent bumps followed by moderate chop for 30 seconds. During this 30 seconds we had what appeared to be a static discharge. We then entered clear air and got 2 sharp intermittent jolts. We were soon notified that we had an injured F/a and that we should land. We declared an emergency and landed at sav west/O further incident. Injuries were limited to bumps and bruises. F/a's were notified as to the possibility of turbulence.

Title: ACR MLG IN FLT ENCOUNTER WITH WX. TSTM ACTIVITY.
Narrative: AT ABOUT 70 MI N OF CAE AT FL310 WX WAS NOTICED AT 12 O'CLOCK. THE SEATBELT SIGN WAS TURNED ON AND I ASKED ZJX FOR A WX DEVIATION TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT OF COURSE TO AVOID WX IN THE VICINITY OF COLUMBIA, SC. THE CTLR RESPONDED THAT THE FLT WAS CLRED TO DEVIATE E. THE ACFT WAS TURNED 15 DEGS E OF COURSE TO AVOID A MAJOR CELL. WHEN THE CELL WAS 20-25 W OF OUR POS AND THE ACFT WAS 30 NM E SE OF COLUMBIA WE BEGAN TO ENTER OCCASIONAL VERY LIGHT RAIN. IGNITION AND ENG HEAT WAS TURNED ON. NO SIGNIFICANT WX SHOWED ON THE RADAR OTHER THAN THE CELL WE WERE DEVIATING FROM. WE HAD 2 MILD INTERMITTENT BUMPS FOLLOWED BY MODERATE CHOP FOR 30 SECS. DURING THIS 30 SECS WE HAD WHAT APPEARED TO BE A STATIC DISCHARGE. WE THEN ENTERED CLEAR AIR AND GOT 2 SHARP INTERMITTENT JOLTS. WE WERE SOON NOTIFIED THAT WE HAD AN INJURED F/A AND THAT WE SHOULD LAND. WE DECLARED AN EMER AND LANDED AT SAV W/O FURTHER INCIDENT. INJURIES WERE LIMITED TO BUMPS AND BRUISES. F/A'S WERE NOTIFIED AS TO THE POSSIBILITY OF TURB.
