Narrative:
While cruising at FL280, a TCASII TA for another aircraft at FL270, 5 mi in our 12 O'clock position. Soon after an RA was given by the TCASII system to climb 2000 ft on the vvi. This was accomplished immediately. TCASII gave a 'clear of conflict' call as we passed FL287. ATC did acknowledge an altitude deviation of another aircraft of 400 ft (after we leveled back at FL280).
