Narrative:
Pilot filed no plan. Crossed shoreline at georgetown, nc, heading 090 degree destination was pbi. Planned to reenter land at titusville, fl. Approximately 100 mi southeast of jax I determined that I would not have enough fuel to make an instrument landing at daytona or melbourne. At that time the ceilings had caused IFR conditions. Jax was closer and was still landing VFR. I immediately contacted ATC and was informed that the air force was upset with my violation of the air defense airspace. At the time I was moving at 98 KTS toward jax squawking 1200. The air force captain informed later on the land line that not 1 but 2 jets were being readied to intercept me. I was in violation and will file a DVFR flight plan in the future. My question is this, 'should we reexamine our territorial practices in light of our complete defense reassessment the world over?' are we still belaboring under the red sneak attack mentality? Can our government's money be better spent? However I was wrong but should the act continue to be wrong?
