Narrative:
During taxi I failed to hold short of runway 13, I was in a rush to meet a client in texas and was reading checklist during taxi. In the urgency to get airborne I misjudged distance to runway 13 and was taxiing too fast. When I realized I was at the runway 13, I stopped midway across, then realizing the situation I taxied across the other side and held until advised by ground, I had been instructed to hold short of the runway. This was a situation where I let outside pressures rush me into being preoccupied inside the aircraft during the ground operation before getting to end of active runway. My eagerness to get underway caused me not to concentrate on instructions closely enough. I got clearance on the taxi and there was only about 150 yds to the runway I should have held short of. Also it was unusual for the tower to be using runway 5 as the runway and taking aircraft off on runway 31, subconsciously the hold short instructions did not register as strongly as they should have. Main cause in my opinion was trying to get off the ground too quick -- lack of concentration on routine ground transmissions. Reading checklists too early and being preoccupied with checklist versus clearance instructions. Also ground should have but did not warn me of going too far. They were unaware until I had crossed runway 13 and only communicated to me after the fact.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CORP PLT FAILS TO HOLD SHORT AS CLRED.
Narrative: DURING TAXI I FAILED TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 13, I WAS IN A RUSH TO MEET A CLIENT IN TEXAS AND WAS READING CHKLIST DURING TAXI. IN THE URGENCY TO GET AIRBORNE I MISJUDGED DISTANCE TO RWY 13 AND WAS TAXIING TOO FAST. WHEN I REALIZED I WAS AT THE RWY 13, I STOPPED MIDWAY ACROSS, THEN REALIZING THE SITUATION I TAXIED ACROSS THE OTHER SIDE AND HELD UNTIL ADVISED BY GND, I HAD BEEN INSTRUCTED TO HOLD SHORT OF THE RWY. THIS WAS A SITUATION WHERE I LET OUTSIDE PRESSURES RUSH ME INTO BEING PREOCCUPIED INSIDE THE ACFT DURING THE GND OP BEFORE GETTING TO END OF ACTIVE RWY. MY EAGERNESS TO GET UNDERWAY CAUSED ME NOT TO CONCENTRATE ON INSTRUCTIONS CLOSELY ENOUGH. I GOT CLRNC ON THE TAXI AND THERE WAS ONLY ABOUT 150 YDS TO THE RWY I SHOULD HAVE HELD SHORT OF. ALSO IT WAS UNUSUAL FOR THE TWR TO BE USING RWY 5 AS THE RWY AND TAKING ACFT OFF ON RWY 31, SUBCONSCIOUSLY THE HOLD SHORT INSTRUCTIONS DID NOT REGISTER AS STRONGLY AS THEY SHOULD HAVE. MAIN CAUSE IN MY OPINION WAS TRYING TO GET OFF THE GND TOO QUICK -- LACK OF CONCENTRATION ON ROUTINE GND TRANSMISSIONS. READING CHKLISTS TOO EARLY AND BEING PREOCCUPIED WITH CHKLIST VERSUS CLRNC INSTRUCTIONS. ALSO GND SHOULD HAVE BUT DID NOT WARN ME OF GOING TOO FAR. THEY WERE UNAWARE UNTIL I HAD CROSSED RWY 13 AND ONLY COMMUNICATED TO ME AFTER THE FACT.
