Narrative:
We were climbing out of ord on vectors to 5000 MSL in rain and turbulence. I was hand flying because it was too rough for the autoplt and concentrating on controling the airplane I forgot to reset my altimeter so it was reading almost 700 ft low. When the captain called out 4000 for 5000 I looked at my altimeter and thought I had more than enough time to level off at 5000 ft. By the time I glanced at the center altimeter we were out of 4800 ft. I pushed the nose over harder and pulled the power back to idle, but we didn't stop our ascent till 5200 ft and immediately went down to 5000 ft. Just as we reached 5000 ft, departure cleared us to 6000 ft. Then just as we started climbing again, departure said to stay at 5000 ft, which we did. There was no other traffic in the immediate area. In a couple of mins we climbed to 23000 ft without further incident.

Title: ACR HAS ALTDEV DUE TO TURB AND WRONG ALTIM SETTING.
Narrative: WE WERE CLBING OUT OF ORD ON VECTORS TO 5000 MSL IN RAIN AND TURB. I WAS HAND FLYING BECAUSE IT WAS TOO ROUGH FOR THE AUTOPLT AND CONCENTRATING ON CTLING THE AIRPLANE I FORGOT TO RESET MY ALTIMETER SO IT WAS READING ALMOST 700 FT LOW. WHEN THE CAPT CALLED OUT 4000 FOR 5000 I LOOKED AT MY ALTIMETER AND THOUGHT I HAD MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME TO LEVEL OFF AT 5000 FT. BY THE TIME I GLANCED AT THE CENTER ALTIMETER WE WERE OUT OF 4800 FT. I PUSHED THE NOSE OVER HARDER AND PULLED THE PWR BACK TO IDLE, BUT WE DIDN'T STOP OUR ASCENT TILL 5200 FT AND IMMEDIATELY WENT DOWN TO 5000 FT. JUST AS WE REACHED 5000 FT, DEP CLRED US TO 6000 FT. THEN JUST AS WE STARTED CLBING AGAIN, DEP SAID TO STAY AT 5000 FT, WHICH WE DID. THERE WAS NO OTHER TFC IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA. IN A COUPLE OF MINS WE CLBED TO 23000 FT WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
