Narrative:
Student and myself were practicing an engine failure just after takeoff. The student set the plane up for a forced landing and went through the procedures for a forced landing. When we tried to go around the engine wouldn't produce any power and coughed. I took control of the aircraft and proceeded with an actual forced landing. At the end of the field was a drainage ditch which we went into. The student and myself were unhurt and the aircraft received minor damage. The cause I believe was carburetor icing. The carburetor heat control wasn't pulled out I believe.
