Narrative:
An unusual surface visibility situation presented itself to us during takeoff at seatac. The TDZ RVR was 6000 ft, mid RVR 500 ft and rollout RVR 500 ft. After digging through our operations specifications, we learned that with a min of 1600 ft RVR at the touchdown zone, proper markings and lighting, the mid and rollout RVR became advisory and not controling. We departed 34R after an inquiry from the tower and a caustic comment from another carrier.
