Narrative:
Air carrier X was given an approach to 26L, then when traffic was acquired, we were given visual to 26R. Air carrier Y on our right appeared and was making an approach to 26R also. When we inquired as to his assignment the tower said he was 'cleared for the parallel' which didn't clear up the issue. As we had visual on the conflict, we initiated evasive action, climb, and air carrier Y started a right turn away. Immediately after telling tower we're climbing, tower reclred us to runway 26L. We landed without further incident.
