Narrative:

On departure from jfk to sju, encountered mod turbulence at 4000 ft speed 220 KTS. Increased speed to 250 KTS in TCA. At 5000 ft turbulence became severe, speed increased to 280 KTS, which is turbulence speed for large transport aircraft. Was not informed by departure of turbulence which it seems he knew about. I relayed moderate with occasional severe between 4000 ft to 6000 ft to both jfk departure on 125.7 and ZNY on 128.3. No mention of turbulence on ATIS, ground, tower or departure. I advised dispatch and maintenance and logged severe turbulence in logbook. Aircraft appeared normal on climb out. Did not want to fly through turbulence again, continued on to destination. No one hurt. All strapped in at time of turbulence.

Title: FLC OF LGT IN CLB OUT OF JFK ENCOUNTERED SEVERE TURB BTWN 4000 AND 6000.

Narrative: ON DEP FROM JFK TO SJU, ENCOUNTERED MOD TURB AT 4000 FT SPD 220 KTS. INCREASED SPD TO 250 KTS IN TCA. AT 5000 FT TURB BECAME SEVERE, SPD INCREASED TO 280 KTS, WHICH IS TURB SPD FOR LGT ACFT. WAS NOT INFORMED BY DEP OF TURB WHICH IT SEEMS HE KNEW ABOUT. I RELAYED MODERATE WITH OCCASIONAL SEVERE BTWN 4000 FT TO 6000 FT TO BOTH JFK DEP ON 125.7 AND ZNY ON 128.3. NO MENTION OF TURB ON ATIS, GND, TWR OR DEP. I ADVISED DISPATCH AND MAINT AND LOGGED SEVERE TURB IN LOGBOOK. ACFT APPEARED NORMAL ON CLB OUT. DID NOT WANT TO FLY THROUGH TURB AGAIN, CONTINUED ON TO DEST. NO ONE HURT. ALL STRAPPED IN AT TIME OF TURB.
