Narrative:
Clearance was given to taxi to runway 36, but hold short of runway 3. After traffic ahead took off, we crossed runway 3 to hold short of 36. (Traffic was being metered into the runup area for 36 on account of construction taking place on the western side of runup area.) halfway across the runup area tower advised of a sudden delay and requested we park in the 'good' part of the runup area. During our taxi into the area, a bump was felt as if something was hit. We stopped, maintenance was called and we returned to gate following the determination that right hand main had gone over barricade. Contributing factors were: the late and sudden clearance to hold not giving much room to plan ahead. Narrow remaining runup area, no fillet or roundout in construction area.
