Narrative:
After a normal stabilized approach and touchdown, the nose pitched up a little. I corrected, stopped and turned off the runway. Flight attendant called and said they heard a scraping noise after landing. Subsequently found scraped fuselage near the tail. PF had not flown aircraft type in the previous 12 months. His last trip prior to this one was 11/xx/91. All the previous flying was done on another model. Pilot's rest break was interrupted by moderate turbulence, which woke him, and was unable to get back to sleep. Fatigue and slightly different aircraft characteristics produced too slow a reaction to gusty winds or reverse thrust pitch changes, allowing nose to get too high. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: I tried to hold the aircraft off for a smooth landing and in the process got the nose too high -- with the strong crosswind I should have planted it and got the nose down before going into reverse. I know better than to get into the attitude I did and no excuses -- I just messed up the landing and rollout. First airplane ding in 31 yrs and 1 day of flying for this airline.

Title: WDB ACFT HAD TAIL STRIKE ON LNDG AT JFK.
Narrative: AFTER A NORMAL STABILIZED APCH AND TOUCHDOWN, THE NOSE PITCHED UP A LITTLE. I CORRECTED, STOPPED AND TURNED OFF THE RWY. FLT ATTENDANT CALLED AND SAID THEY HEARD A SCRAPING NOISE AFTER LNDG. SUBSEQUENTLY FOUND SCRAPED FUSELAGE NEAR THE TAIL. PF HAD NOT FLOWN ACFT TYPE IN THE PREVIOUS 12 MONTHS. HIS LAST TRIP PRIOR TO THIS ONE WAS 11/XX/91. ALL THE PREVIOUS FLYING WAS DONE ON ANOTHER MODEL. PLT'S REST BREAK WAS INTERRUPTED BY MODERATE TURB, WHICH WOKE HIM, AND WAS UNABLE TO GET BACK TO SLEEP. FATIGUE AND SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT ACFT CHARACTERISTICS PRODUCED TOO SLOW A REACTION TO GUSTY WINDS OR REVERSE THRUST PITCH CHANGES, ALLOWING NOSE TO GET TOO HIGH. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: I TRIED TO HOLD THE ACFT OFF FOR A SMOOTH LNDG AND IN THE PROCESS GOT THE NOSE TOO HIGH -- WITH THE STRONG XWIND I SHOULD HAVE PLANTED IT AND GOT THE NOSE DOWN BEFORE GOING INTO REVERSE. I KNOW BETTER THAN TO GET INTO THE ATTITUDE I DID AND NO EXCUSES -- I JUST MESSED UP THE LNDG AND ROLLOUT. FIRST AIRPLANE DING IN 31 YRS AND 1 DAY OF FLYING FOR THIS AIRLINE.
