Narrative:

Cvg was only using runway 27 for both departures and arrs due to strong surface winds, ground visibility was poor due to blowing snow. We were given a taxi clearance from spot X to runway 27 via A3, west, B, J. We were in the area of A3 but unable to decide which taxiway was A3. We stopped and tried to talk to ground. The frequency was very busy so it was some time before we could talk to ground. In the meantime, an medium large transport taxied from spot Y in front of us and turned on A3. His wing tip separation from our nose was less than my captain was happy with. Part of the reason we could not determine which taxiway was A3 was because we did not see any signs marking the taxiway. It is hard to tell A3 from A2 or B.
