Narrative:

We were on vectors to runway 23R at rdu, arriving from the southwest. Rdu was doing parallel visual approachs to runway 23L/right. Visibility to the east was poor due to the sun angle. The vectors issued by approach took us through both the centerline of 23R and 23L. TCASII alerted us to traffic to runway 23L and when we visually saw him we turned to avoid a close conflict. At the time of the conflict we were on a vector to the southeast. Shortly after the incident we were given a vector of 270 degrees followed by a clearance for the visual to runway 23R. Landing was made without further incident. The other aircraft was another air carrier medium large transport. He reported he had visual on us throughout the incident. (We were chs-rdu.) problem was caused by poor approach control vectors. The headings were given too late causing severe overshoot on base leg.

Title: ACR WAS VECTORED THROUGH THE FINAL APCH COURSE FOR A VISUAL APCH COMES ON CLOSE PROX TO ANOTHER ACR.

Narrative: WE WERE ON VECTORS TO RWY 23R AT RDU, ARRIVING FROM THE SW. RDU WAS DOING PARALLEL VISUAL APCHS TO RWY 23L/R. VISIBILITY TO THE E WAS POOR DUE TO THE SUN ANGLE. THE VECTORS ISSUED BY APCH TOOK US THROUGH BOTH THE CTRLINE OF 23R AND 23L. TCASII ALERTED US TO TFC TO RWY 23L AND WHEN WE VISUALLY SAW HIM WE TURNED TO AVOID A CLOSE CONFLICT. AT THE TIME OF THE CONFLICT WE WERE ON A VECTOR TO THE SE. SHORTLY AFTER THE INCIDENT WE WERE GIVEN A VECTOR OF 270 DEGS FOLLOWED BY A CLRNC FOR THE VISUAL TO RWY 23R. LNDG WAS MADE WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE OTHER ACFT WAS ANOTHER ACR MLG. HE RPTED HE HAD VISUAL ON US THROUGHOUT THE INCIDENT. (WE WERE CHS-RDU.) PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY POOR APCH CTL VECTORS. THE HDGS WERE GIVEN TOO LATE CAUSING SEVERE OVERSHOOT ON BASE LEG.
