Narrative:
On first solo cross country, using dead reckoning, from 06C direct mli. Once at mli closed flight plan, got books signed, filed new flight plan. Got detained on ramp approximately 15 min due to factoring traffic. Next leg was mli direct bmi. On ground at bmi approximately 10-12 min. Third leg bmi direct 06C. First 3 check points right on course. Starting to get dusk. Fourth check point missed, due to sun dropping below haze layer, but did see arrival. Arrival approximately 11 mi west, 06C approximately 16 mi north, decided to continue to 06C to complete cross country. It got dark, did not see dpa, flew right over 06C. Continued on a nne direction, until the time factor made me realize I had passed it. Too dark for VFR ground reference, started looking for water tanks. First one recognized was rosemont. Knew I was in TCA tried to stay low and head west due to factoring traffic altitudes unknown, in order to take evasive action. Called traffic at 06C for assist. Unknown traffic suggested contact pwk for radar assist. Called pwk for radar assist, they vectored me to airport.
