Narrative:
Under dtw approach control 11000 ft level flight. TCASII traffic warning. Located aircraft visually. Climbing from below high rate climb. No information about traffic from approach. Received TCASII RA to climb now. Left 11000 ft in response to RA. Advised controller immediately of deviation and reasons. Was informed in rather patronizing terms exactly what traffic was and what it was doing. Had they done this before problem arose no problem would have existed. Because approach did not alert us to the aircraft we had no way of knowing that it would level 1000 ft below. Altitude deviation no more than 500 ft high. Returned to assigned as soon as clear of conflict. Aircraft in question was not identifiable except as a light. Could have been anything. Was climbing fast and on a close collision course. Could have been busted altitude, controller error, anything. ATC must learn to alert us to situations that TCASII might interpret as a conflict.

Title: ACR HAS TCASII RA FROM ACFT BELOW. EVASIVE ACTION CLB.
Narrative: UNDER DTW APCH CTL 11000 FT LEVEL FLT. TCASII TFC WARNING. LOCATED ACFT VISUALLY. CLBING FROM BELOW HIGH RATE CLB. NO INFO ABOUT TFC FROM APCH. RECEIVED TCASII RA TO CLB NOW. LEFT 11000 FT IN RESPONSE TO RA. ADVISED CTLR IMMEDIATELY OF DEV AND REASONS. WAS INFORMED IN RATHER PATRONIZING TERMS EXACTLY WHAT TFC WAS AND WHAT IT WAS DOING. HAD THEY DONE THIS BEFORE PROBLEM AROSE NO PROBLEM WOULD HAVE EXISTED. BECAUSE APCH DID NOT ALERT US TO THE ACFT WE HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING THAT IT WOULD LEVEL 1000 FT BELOW. ALTDEV NO MORE THAN 500 FT HIGH. RETURNED TO ASSIGNED AS SOON AS CLR OF CONFLICT. ACFT IN QUESTION WAS NOT IDENTIFIABLE EXCEPT AS A LIGHT. COULD HAVE BEEN ANYTHING. WAS CLBING FAST AND ON A CLOSE COLLISION COURSE. COULD HAVE BEEN BUSTED ALT, CTLR ERROR, ANYTHING. ATC MUST LEARN TO ALERT US TO SITUATIONS THAT TCASII MIGHT INTERPRET AS A CONFLICT.
