Narrative:
While en route to ft pierce st lucie county airport to refuel on a trip to freeport bahamas, I landed at ft pierce which I thought was an uncontrolled field with a unicom frequency of 122.7 (which I called several times with no answer). I landed after following several light planes in. Upon landing, I was told to call the tower they told me they thought I had lost a radio and they had given me light signals. I told them that the chart I had showed this to be an uncontrolled field. They instructed me to be more careful in the future and I told them that I surely would. After talking with the tower I looked the airport up in my airport facility directory and found out that it was a controled field. Since the chart showed the field as a unicom airport, I did not think to look it up in the airport directory. I see now that I should have and in the future I will look up the airport that I am stopping at in the directory.
