Narrative:
I had a normal approach and touchdown, but my passenger observer in the left seat accidentally hit the brakes and the airplane skidded sideways on the runway. The left main gear broke/collapsed and we slid off the runway when the left wing toughed the ground. No one was injured and the airplane did not hit anything. When I realized that the passenger had his ft on the brakes, I told him to get off the brakes. What I should have done, was to brief him especially do not touch the brakes (or any other controls). I briefed him before the flight that I did the flying, but he could situation in the left seat and observe me. He wanted to observe me because he was planning to take flight lessons in the same aircraft. He has a private pilot license-single engine.

Title: INADVERTENT BRAKE APPLICATION BY PAX, A NON ESSENTIAL COCKPIT OCCUPANT, CAUSES GEAR TO COLLAPSE AND CREATE A RWY EXCURSION AND ACFT DAMAGE.
Narrative: I HAD A NORMAL APCH AND TOUCHDOWN, BUT MY PAX OBSERVER IN THE L SEAT ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE BRAKES AND THE AIRPLANE SKIDDED SIDEWAYS ON THE RWY. THE L MAIN GEAR BROKE/COLLAPSED AND WE SLID OFF THE RWY WHEN THE L WING TOUGHED THE GND. NO ONE WAS INJURED AND THE AIRPLANE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING. WHEN I REALIZED THAT THE PAX HAD HIS FT ON THE BRAKES, I TOLD HIM TO GET OFF THE BRAKES. WHAT I SHOULD HAVE DONE, WAS TO BRIEF HIM ESPECIALLY DO NOT TOUCH THE BRAKES (OR ANY OTHER CTLS). I BRIEFED HIM BEFORE THE FLT THAT I DID THE FLYING, BUT HE COULD SIT IN THE L SEAT AND OBSERVE ME. HE WANTED TO OBSERVE ME BECAUSE HE WAS PLANNING TO TAKE FLT LESSONS IN THE SAME ACFT. HE HAS A PRIVATE PLT LICENSE-SINGLE ENG.
