Narrative:
Had write up on lavatory that had been cleared by mechanic by pulling (and collaring) circuit breakers. No mcl was noted or used. I thought I had noticed an MEL and looked for one, but could not find it, (seemed like it should be under 'water/waste'. Checked with mechanic in dtw and discovered there is an applicable MEL under 'equipment and furnishings' mechanic noted item. MEL book needs an index.

Title: IMPROPER RECORDING OF AN ACFT EQUIP MALFUNCTION DISPOSITION.
Narrative: HAD WRITE UP ON LAVATORY THAT HAD BEEN CLRED BY MECH BY PULLING (AND COLLARING) CIRCUIT BREAKERS. NO MCL WAS NOTED OR USED. I THOUGHT I HAD NOTICED AN MEL AND LOOKED FOR ONE, BUT COULD NOT FIND IT, (SEEMED LIKE IT SHOULD BE UNDER 'WATER/WASTE'. CHKED WITH MECH IN DTW AND DISCOVERED THERE IS AN APPLICABLE MEL UNDER 'EQUIP AND FURNISHINGS' MECH NOTED ITEM. MEL BOOK NEEDS AN INDEX.
