Narrative:
We were parked in the holding area at ord for 35 mins (after landing) waiting for our gate to open. Ramp control called us and said to start coming over to the gate as it was starting to clear. We started engines and taxied out of the holding area. We contacted ground control and they told us to follow a company widebody transport to the ramp. We had already taxied out of the holding area and were ahead of the widebody transport when he gave the taxi instructions. No conflicts occurred. I realized later that I should have held my position in the holding area until ground gave taxi instructions.

Title: ACR PIC OF LGT UNABLE TO COMPLY WITH ATC INSTRUCTIONS FOR TAXIING TFC AND FINDS HIMSELF OUT OF EXPECTED TAXI SEQUENCE.
Narrative: WE WERE PARKED IN THE HOLDING AREA AT ORD FOR 35 MINS (AFTER LNDG) WAITING FOR OUR GATE TO OPEN. RAMP CTL CALLED US AND SAID TO START COMING OVER TO THE GATE AS IT WAS STARTING TO CLR. WE STARTED ENGS AND TAXIED OUT OF THE HOLDING AREA. WE CONTACTED GND CTL AND THEY TOLD US TO FOLLOW A COMPANY WDB TO THE RAMP. WE HAD ALREADY TAXIED OUT OF THE HOLDING AREA AND WERE AHEAD OF THE WDB WHEN HE GAVE THE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. NO CONFLICTS OCCURRED. I REALIZED LATER THAT I SHOULD HAVE HELD MY POS IN THE HOLDING AREA UNTIL GND GAVE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS.
