Narrative:
While cleared to land on runway 16 at daytona beach, fl, airport I heard a controller give a helicopter, giving rides, a clearance to depart at your own risk. The helicopter was going to depart in front of our small aircraft at approximately 1 to 3/4 of a mi, crossing right to left. We were on the VOR runway 16 approach. The controller then told the helicopter to cross over the numbers of runway 16, the helicopter pilot said he wanted to wait to depart behind us. My student is working on his commercial and instrument ratings and had approximately 200 hours and had proven good landing skills many times over, so I was devoting most of my attention to the helicopter. I had pulled up his hood 2 mi from the runway and told him to land. When the helicopter was cleared behind us I came back inside the airplane to notice the airspeed was fast and he had failed to put any landing flaps in. I immediately told him to slow down get the flaps in and get set up for this landing. He continued to keep the airplane high and a little fast. I pulled the throttle back and we touched down. At the same time an medium large transport was landing on runway 7L. 16 and 7L normally intersect but 16 is being raised so 16 ends just short of 7L. I saw the medium large transport in reverse thrust but was unsure if he would stop before getting to the closed intersection and unsure if we would stop before going out on 7L. I decided to do an immediate go around. I assumed control from the student, giving full throttle and bringing flaps up to 10 degrees. We lifted off at vx 60 KTS. At this time my seat moved to the full rear position and the throttle came back in my hand. I immediately let go of the controls and gave them to the student. I pulled my seat back up and flew out at vx. We apparently overran runway 16 across 7L and a slight bit into the closed portion of 16. I think the helicopter distracted both of us from staying in the appropriate landing position. Runway 16 is a wide runway and with its very short 3000 ft open it gives the optical illusion of being low. I think the seat going back was the biggest part of the overrun. We would have lifted off short of the end if it wouldn't have gone back. No injuries or damage to anything occurred.

Title: SMA ON IFR APCH HAS CLOSE PROX WITH MLG DOES GAR. SEAT SLIDES BACK, OVERRUNS PORTION OF CLOSED, INTERSECTING RWY.
Narrative: WHILE CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 16 AT DAYTONA BEACH, FL, ARPT I HEARD A CTLR GIVE A HELI, GIVING RIDES, A CLRNC TO DEPART AT YOUR OWN RISK. THE HELI WAS GOING TO DEPART IN FRONT OF OUR SMA AT APPROX 1 TO 3/4 OF A MI, XING R TO L. WE WERE ON THE VOR RWY 16 APCH. THE CTLR THEN TOLD THE HELI TO CROSS OVER THE NUMBERS OF RWY 16, THE HELI PLT SAID HE WANTED TO WAIT TO DEPART BEHIND US. MY STUDENT IS WORKING ON HIS COMMERCIAL AND INST RATINGS AND HAD APPROX 200 HRS AND HAD PROVEN GOOD LNDG SKILLS MANY TIMES OVER, SO I WAS DEVOTING MOST OF MY ATTN TO THE HELI. I HAD PULLED UP HIS HOOD 2 MI FROM THE RWY AND TOLD HIM TO LAND. WHEN THE HELI WAS CLRED BEHIND US I CAME BACK INSIDE THE AIRPLANE TO NOTICE THE AIRSPD WAS FAST AND HE HAD FAILED TO PUT ANY LNDG FLAPS IN. I IMMEDIATELY TOLD HIM TO SLOW DOWN GET THE FLAPS IN AND GET SET UP FOR THIS LNDG. HE CONTINUED TO KEEP THE AIRPLANE HIGH AND A LITTLE FAST. I PULLED THE THROTTLE BACK AND WE TOUCHED DOWN. AT THE SAME TIME AN MLG WAS LNDG ON RWY 7L. 16 AND 7L NORMALLY INTERSECT BUT 16 IS BEING RAISED SO 16 ENDS JUST SHORT OF 7L. I SAW THE MLG IN REVERSE THRUST BUT WAS UNSURE IF HE WOULD STOP BEFORE GETTING TO THE CLOSED INTXN AND UNSURE IF WE WOULD STOP BEFORE GOING OUT ON 7L. I DECIDED TO DO AN IMMEDIATE GAR. I ASSUMED CTL FROM THE STUDENT, GIVING FULL THROTTLE AND BRINGING FLAPS UP TO 10 DEGS. WE LIFTED OFF AT VX 60 KTS. AT THIS TIME MY SEAT MOVED TO THE FULL REAR POS AND THE THROTTLE CAME BACK IN MY HAND. I IMMEDIATELY LET GO OF THE CTLS AND GAVE THEM TO THE STUDENT. I PULLED MY SEAT BACK UP AND FLEW OUT AT VX. WE APPARENTLY OVERRAN RWY 16 ACROSS 7L AND A SLIGHT BIT INTO THE CLOSED PORTION OF 16. I THINK THE HELI DISTRACTED BOTH OF US FROM STAYING IN THE APPROPRIATE LNDG POS. RWY 16 IS A WIDE RWY AND WITH ITS VERY SHORT 3000 FT OPEN IT GIVES THE OPTICAL ILLUSION OF BEING LOW. I THINK THE SEAT GOING BACK WAS THE BIGGEST PART OF THE OVERRUN.
