Narrative:
Had wrong DME frequency in navigation radios. We overlooked the fact that the runway 18L approach uses fort mill (fml) VOR-DME as the DME reference for the approach fixes, i.e., GS intercept/FAF fix. We assumed clt DME was the DME for this approach, since it is on the field. Confusion arose when DME/marker beacon/instrument GS indications did not match expected indications. We began descent to localizer mins, thinking our GS was inoperative. We were executing map when called by approach for low altitude alert. During vectors back for another approach, another study of the approach plate revealed fml as the proper DME source. With fml tuned and idented, the second approach was routine and uneventful. Corrective suggestion-change the approach to use clt as the DME reference.

DURING VECTORS BACK FOR ANOTHER APCH, ANOTHER STUDY OF THE APCH PLATE REVEALED FML AS THE PROPER DME SOURCE. WITH FML TUNED AND IDENTED, THE SECOND APCH WAS ROUTINE AND UNEVENTFUL. CORRECTIVE SUGGESTION-CHANGE THE APCH TO USE CLT AS THE DME REF.
