Narrative:
I took off VFR from vny, went to newhall pass maintained VFR. I saw a large hole in overcast and proceeded to blue sky. I looked down and the area below me filled in with clouds. Within a few moments, I found myself IFR. I was able to climb out by circling up. Needless to say, I was just a bit upset. I proceeded to mojave area and have flown here many times in order to stay VFR (1 mi clear of clouds). I went into the mojave air traffic area. I did not realize that mojave was a controled airport. My mistake! I will be much more careful in the future. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states his flight was the 'trip from hell!' he did get a briefing but WX was not as forecast. Tops were forecast much lower, were really high. Forecast scattered not broken. When asked if using chart, he stated probably not, as he is quite used to this route and travels to mammoth frequently. He did not check chart but 'remembers' mhv as uncontrolled. Callback was to counsel reporter. Don't know if it helped! No follow up. Did warn reporter that he probably crossed several airways with arrs and departures to bur area and possibly lax as well.

Title: SMA CLBS THROUGH HOLE IN CLOUDS HOLE FILLS IN. HAS TO CIRCLE AND CLB TO REMAIN CLR. ENTERS ATA OF NEARBY ARPT.
Narrative: I TOOK OFF VFR FROM VNY, WENT TO NEWHALL PASS MAINTAINED VFR. I SAW A LARGE HOLE IN OVCST AND PROCEEDED TO BLUE SKY. I LOOKED DOWN AND THE AREA BELOW ME FILLED IN WITH CLOUDS. WITHIN A FEW MOMENTS, I FOUND MYSELF IFR. I WAS ABLE TO CLB OUT BY CIRCLING UP. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I WAS JUST A BIT UPSET. I PROCEEDED TO MOJAVE AREA AND HAVE FLOWN HERE MANY TIMES IN ORDER TO STAY VFR (1 MI CLR OF CLOUDS). I WENT INTO THE MOJAVE ATA. I DID NOT REALIZE THAT MOJAVE WAS A CTLED ARPT. MY MISTAKE! I WILL BE MUCH MORE CAREFUL IN THE FUTURE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES HIS FLT WAS THE 'TRIP FROM HELL!' HE DID GET A BRIEFING BUT WX WAS NOT AS FORECAST. TOPS WERE FORECAST MUCH LOWER, WERE REALLY HIGH. FORECAST SCATTERED NOT BROKEN. WHEN ASKED IF USING CHART, HE STATED PROBABLY NOT, AS HE IS QUITE USED TO THIS RTE AND TRAVELS TO MAMMOTH FREQUENTLY. HE DID NOT CHK CHART BUT 'REMEMBERS' MHV AS UNCTLED. CALLBACK WAS TO COUNSEL RPTR. DON'T KNOW IF IT HELPED! NO FOLLOW UP. DID WARN RPTR THAT HE PROBABLY CROSSED SEVERAL AIRWAYS WITH ARRS AND DEPS TO BUR AREA AND POSSIBLY LAX AS WELL.
