Narrative:
Departed 4R bos. We flew runway heading instead of turning right to 909 degrees for noise abatement. Clearance was received via ACARS, but did not notice the logan 8 departure on the last line of page 2. This would not have occurred if it would have been included in the clearance (route) on the first page. Supplemental information from acn 206579: to prevent a recurrence, the SID should be the first item, even prior to the route (as it is given over the radio). Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that this problem appears to be at bos only, with ATC generating the pre departure procedure message on the ACARS. PIC asked the first officer for any special procedures on the 4R departure and the first officer stated that there were none as he had only read the first page of 2 pages on the ACARS. Captain was too busy taxiing aircraft and therefore did not double check the ACARS message. Captain seldom used runway 4R and was distraction with the task.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: HDG TRACK DEV IN NON ADHERENCE WITH ATC CLRNC.
Narrative: DEPARTED 4R BOS. WE FLEW RWY HDG INSTEAD OF TURNING R TO 909 DEGS FOR NOISE ABATEMENT. CLRNC WAS RECEIVED VIA ACARS, BUT DID NOT NOTICE THE LOGAN 8 DEP ON THE LAST LINE OF PAGE 2. THIS WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED IF IT WOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE CLRNC (RTE) ON THE FIRST PAGE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 206579: TO PREVENT A RECURRENCE, THE SID SHOULD BE THE FIRST ITEM, EVEN PRIOR TO THE RTE (AS IT IS GIVEN OVER THE RADIO). CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT THIS PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE AT BOS ONLY, WITH ATC GENERATING THE PRE DEP PROC MSG ON THE ACARS. PIC ASKED THE FO FOR ANY SPECIAL PROCS ON THE 4R DEP AND THE FO STATED THAT THERE WERE NONE AS HE HAD ONLY READ THE FIRST PAGE OF 2 PAGES ON THE ACARS. CAPT WAS TOO BUSY TAXIING ACFT AND THEREFORE DID NOT DOUBLE CHK THE ACARS MSG. CAPT SELDOM USED RWY 4R AND WAS DISTR WITH THE TASK.
