Narrative:

I was on an IFR flight plan, pnc to dal, VMC conditions. Total electric failure. Decided to land okc. Wiley post was able to contact okc. Approximately 25 mi southeast of norman, told approach my intention. Flew by. No gear down. Instructed to turn 270 degrees then began to crank down gear. Landed. No problem. Was met by fire truck and equipment. Was not aware of proper procedure. Since no emergency was declared or no accident or problem, did not want to do something improper. Was out of contact with control approximately 15 mins. Cause: loose wire on alternator. Was able to continue trip.

FLEW BY. NO GEAR DOWN. INSTRUCTED TO TURN 270 DEGS THEN BEGAN TO CRANK DOWN GEAR. LANDED. NO PROBLEM. WAS MET BY FIRE TRUCK AND EQUIP. WAS NOT AWARE OF PROPER PROC. SINCE NO EMER WAS DECLARED OR NO ACCIDENT OR PROBLEM, DID NOT WANT TO DO SOMETHING IMPROPER. WAS OUT OF CONTACT WITH CTL APPROX 15 MINS. CAUSE: LOOSE WIRE ON ALTERNATOR. WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE TRIP.
