Narrative:
Got frequency change from cleveland center to washington center. Attention to descent restrictions for arrival to dca. Had a first officer on his first line trip off IOE. Did not hear washington respond. When I looked at frequency windows I saw the frequency had been put into the #2 radio (the one not used for ATC). I corrected the mistake and called washington ATC who said 'we have been trying to call you for 2 mins.' I explained what happened and asked if there was a problem. The answer was no. This can happen very easy on this aircraft so I gave the first officer some helpful instructions that would help him in the future, as well as some for myself to be more vigilant, regardless of other duties.
