Narrative:
Air carrier X over arnes intersection arriving into lax at 1000 MSL and cleared for the remainder of the civet 2 into lax. The TCASII TA sounded for an aircraft at -500 vertical and within 5 mi. ATC directed us to maintain 10000 MSL for traffic at 2 O'clock and 3 mi. The TCASII shortly thereafter issued an RA for the previous traffic, which now showed 300 within 3 mi. ATC called traffic at 1 O'clock and 1 mi. I wasn't able to see traffic which we were closing in on rapidly. The captain started a climb on TCASII RA to 10400 to avoid conflict. We notified ATC of deviation and returned to 10000. Continued to normal uneventful landing at lax. We never saw the small aircraft Y traffic at arnes.

Narrative: ACR X OVER ARNES INTXN ARRIVING INTO LAX AT 1000 MSL AND CLRED FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE CIVET 2 INTO LAX. THE TCASII TA SOUNDED FOR AN ACFT AT -500 VERT AND WITHIN 5 MI. ATC CALLED TFC AT 1 O'CLOCK AND 1 MI. I WASN'T ABLE TO SEE TFC WHICH WE WERE CLOSING IN ON RAPIDLY. THE CAPT STARTED A CLB ON TCASII RA TO 10400 TO AVOID CONFLICT. WE NOTIFIED ATC OF DEV AND RETURNED TO 10000. CONTINUED TO NORMAL UNEVENTFUL LNDG AT LAX. WE NEVER SAW THE SMA Y TFC AT ARNES.
