Narrative:

Ground control gave me instructions to taxi to the active runway which was runway 10 via hotel to a right onto delta. I incorrectly assumed I had permission to cross 10 at the intersection of delta and at runway 10 and continued to the threshold of 10. Ground control instead was planning for me to takeoff of 10 at midfield and expected I would hold short of 10 at the intersection of delta. After crossing 10 ground control instructed me to do a 180 -- hold short of 10 and contact the tower for midfield departure. In the future, I will know never to cross a runway without explicit instruction to do so. I will also follow my location on the field by looking at an airport chart depicting taxi stripes and the runways. In addition, I will ask for progressives at an unfamiliar airport.

Narrative: GND CTL GAVE ME INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI TO THE ACTIVE RWY WHICH WAS RWY 10 VIA HOTEL TO A R ONTO DELTA. AFTER XING 10 GND CTL INSTRUCTED ME TO DO A 180 -- HOLD SHORT OF 10 AND CONTACT THE TWR FOR MIDFIELD DEP. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL KNOW NEVER TO CROSS A RWY WITHOUT EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION TO DO SO. I WILL ALSO FOLLOW MY LOCATION ON THE FIELD BY LOOKING AT AN ARPT CHART DEPICTING TAXI STRIPES AND THE RWYS. IN ADDITION, I WILL ASK FOR PROGRESSIVES AT AN UNFAMILIAR ARPT.
