Narrative:
Asked if we had air carrier Z flight in sight. We did so he gave us a visual to 9R. I was about 15 mi northwest at 4000 ft. Started descent to cross deana LOM at 2300 ft. Approach pointed out light aircraft in pattern below us and turned us toward deana. FAA inspector on board thought we might have started down too soon and gotten too low. I did not think so. He said he was not going to pursue the issue, and approach control made no further comment.
