Narrative:
This report is submitted by myself as a flight instructor, describing an incident which occurred to a pilot who I was giving instruction to. The pilot was operating solo, as PIC, I was not in the aircraft. The pilot raised the landing gear of an small aircraft single engine complex aircraft while on the landing rollout and initial takeoff roll of a touch and go landing. The aircraft nose gear collapsed and the aircraft slid 150 ft with the main gear still locked down. The student had 200 plus hours with 30 multi engine and 11 in make and model. The pilot stated he rushed the after landing clean-up procedure and raised the gear before confirming he was moving the gear lever. On dual instruction in this aircraft, I physically cover the gear handle with my hand during landing -- rollout -- takeoff to prevent the PF from inadvertently raising it. I was not in the aircraft on this flight and this may have caused the student to become complacent.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN SMA PLT RETRACTED THE LNDG GEAR ON THE GND WHILE MAKING A TOUCH-AND-GO LNDG. THIS RPT WAS PROVIDED BY HIS INSTRUCTOR WHO WAS NOT IN THE ACFT AT THE TIME.
Narrative: THIS RPT IS SUBMITTED BY MYSELF AS A FLT INSTRUCTOR, DESCRIBING AN INCIDENT WHICH OCCURRED TO A PLT WHO I WAS GIVING INSTRUCTION TO. THE PLT WAS OPERATING SOLO, AS PIC, I WAS NOT IN THE ACFT. THE PLT RAISED THE LNDG GEAR OF AN SMA SINGLE ENG COMPLEX ACFT WHILE ON THE LNDG ROLLOUT AND INITIAL TKOF ROLL OF A TOUCH AND GO LNDG. THE ACFT NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED AND THE ACFT SLID 150 FT WITH THE MAIN GEAR STILL LOCKED DOWN. THE STUDENT HAD 200 PLUS HRS WITH 30 MULTI ENG AND 11 IN MAKE AND MODEL. THE PLT STATED HE RUSHED THE AFTER LNDG CLEAN-UP PROC AND RAISED THE GEAR BEFORE CONFIRMING HE WAS MOVING THE GEAR LEVER. ON DUAL INSTRUCTION IN THIS ACFT, I PHYSICALLY COVER THE GEAR HANDLE WITH MY HAND DURING LNDG -- ROLLOUT -- TKOF TO PREVENT THE PF FROM INADVERTENTLY RAISING IT. I WAS NOT IN THE ACFT ON THIS FLT AND THIS MAY HAVE CAUSED THE STUDENT TO BECOME COMPLACENT.
