Narrative:

Flight was loaded and ready for departure to lan and fnt. Our flight attendant, X, came forward to give us the head count and we both had smelled automatic gas but thought it to be the gas gpu next to the airplane and X said that it smelled in the cargo hold. After departure and level-off, at 15000, we really started smelling this automatic gas smell and it was getting worse. After advising our dispatch of the situation, it was decided upon to divert to azo. An emergency was declared to ATC and a normal landing occurred. Crash, fire, and rescue removed five cardboard boxes of us mail soaked in automatic gas. After maintenance looked over the airplane, we proceeded onto lan and fnt.
