Narrative:

Event: I climbed to 4500 ft on a heading of 265 degrees after taking off from big beaver airfield (3BB) on runway 9. 3BB is in troy, mi, and is approximately 45 NM north by northeast of detroit metropolitan. 3BB is not under the TCA but my route of flight was. The floor of the TCA is 4000 ft. I transitioned a corner of the TCA at 4500 ft for approximately 10 mins without contacting detroit center. How the problem arose: I overlooked, and consequently neglected to abide by the flight rules for operations in and near a TCA because my attention was directed at documenting a sectional printing mistake which I considered the cause of my getting lost the day before on the inbound flight. How it was discovered: I was notified, in-flight, by the kalamazoo TRSA that the detroit FAA office wanted me to call them when I landed. Upon calling them they informed me of the violation. At the time I was entering the airspace, I was unaware I was doing it due to the previously mentioned oversight. Corrective actions: I was only at the northwestern-most tip so by staying on course, I left the TCA. I took no evasive action. I saw no other aircraft. Comments: this event was a simple case of poor judgement on my part. I prioritized trying to correct the mistakes from the prior day's flight over the blatant and obvious tasks that needed to be done. All of my flying experience to date originates from dpa which is beneath the ord TCA, so I'm fully advised on the proper procedures for operating in and around one. I just overlooked my responsibility. My apologies to any other pilots that may have had to take evasive or corrective action.

Title: PLT OF SMA ACFT INADVERTENTLY FLEW THROUGH A TCA.

Narrative: EVENT: I CLBED TO 4500 FT ON A HDG OF 265 DEGS AFTER TAKING OFF FROM BIG BEAVER AIRFIELD (3BB) ON RWY 9. 3BB IS IN TROY, MI, AND IS APPROX 45 NM N BY NE OF DETROIT METRO. 3BB IS NOT UNDER THE TCA BUT MY RTE OF FLT WAS. THE FLOOR OF THE TCA IS 4000 FT. I TRANSITIONED A CORNER OF THE TCA AT 4500 FT FOR APPROX 10 MINS WITHOUT CONTACTING DETROIT CTR. HOW THE PROBLEM AROSE: I OVERLOOKED, AND CONSEQUENTLY NEGLECTED TO ABIDE BY THE FLT RULES FOR OPS IN AND NEAR A TCA BECAUSE MY ATTN WAS DIRECTED AT DOCUMENTING A SECTIONAL PRINTING MISTAKE WHICH I CONSIDERED THE CAUSE OF MY GETTING LOST THE DAY BEFORE ON THE INBOUND FLT. HOW IT WAS DISCOVERED: I WAS NOTIFIED, INFLT, BY THE KALAMAZOO TRSA THAT THE DETROIT FAA OFFICE WANTED ME TO CALL THEM WHEN I LANDED. I SAW NO OTHER ACFT. COMMENTS: THIS EVENT WAS A SIMPLE CASE OF POOR JUDGEMENT ON MY PART. I PRIORITIZED TRYING TO CORRECT THE MISTAKES FROM THE PRIOR DAY'S FLT OVER THE BLATANT AND OBVIOUS TASKS THAT NEEDED TO BE DONE. ALL OF MY FLYING EXPERIENCE TO DATE ORIGINATES FROM DPA WHICH IS BENEATH THE ORD TCA, SO I'M FULLY ADVISED ON THE PROPER PROCS FOR OPERATING IN AND AROUND ONE. I JUST OVERLOOKED MY RESPONSIBILITY. MY APOLOGIES TO ANY OTHER PLTS THAT MAY HAVE HAD TO TAKE EVASIVE OR CORRECTIVE ACTION.
