Narrative:
Company information indicated the scheduled ship for use. Through the preflight and prestart cockpit set-up, a grounding item on the maintenance log was overlooked. The first officer did not see a broken nose gear door hinge that a training crew had wrote up the night before. I looked but did not see the write-up in the log. The aircraft was flown with an open maintenance write-up -- the flight was from fat to lax and was made without event.
